Principal Energy Consultant Needed At Boston Consulting Group



BCG is looking for Project Leader and Principal consultants to help Energy industry clients take on their most difficult challenges, and create strategies that spur growth and ensure long-term success. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, creative thinker with experience managing large-scale organizational change efforts, a genuine passion for problem-solving, and specific Energy industry experience in a consulting or operating role.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As part of our Energy practice, you will partner with leading companies in the Oil & Gas and Power & Utilities sectors, lead high-performing BCG teams, and becoming a meaningful global contributor to the broader BCG Energy Practice Area.

Leveraging BCG’s knowledge and your past experience, you will lead large-scale transformations and develop customized strategies that enable companies to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. You will also lead on digital topics through work with the DigitalBCG practice area and North America Accelerator to fuel growth. Typical projects will span the full breadth of BCG’s core consulting functional areas such as digitalization, strategy, organization, operations, and performance improvement.

Project Leaders and Principals engage with and present to senior clients, direct studies to define client needs, manage project scoping and work module development, supervise research activities, and participate in business development. They oversee the formulation of hypotheses for research and investigation, as well as advanced analysis to identify opportunities. They work closely with clients to solidity their competitive advantage and drive value on multiple levels: financial impact, organizational transformation, enhanced effectiveness and digitalization, improved supplier collaboration and optimized risk management. Project Leaders and Principals are also responsible for continuously developing the firm’s knowledge and capabilities, and play a key role in the development and maintenance of high-level client relationships.

Project Leaders and Principals perform many of the same tasks, however the teams that Principals manage are typically larger, the client problems they face are more complex, and the client relationships are at a more senior level. Business development expectations are also greater at the Principal level.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
The Energy practice is a global business unit made up of over 300 Managing Directors & Partners, Partners & Directors, Partners & Associate Directors, Partners, Principals, Associate Directors and Project Leaders who are supported by a large group of Energy experienced and trained Consultants and Analysts, many of them with pre-BCG industry experience in leading energy companies, governments, and environmental organizations. We work with the senior leaders of leading international and national oil companies, service providers, utilities, regulators and financial institutions, enabling them to meet the challenges of rising complexity and risk.

The practice area has enjoyed rapid and sustained annual growth over several years, coming to represent approximately 10% of BCG’s global business volume.

In this role, you’ll find high visibility and clear opportunity for rapid advancement as you collaborate with BCG team members from many backgrounds and disciplines in a team-oriented, relationship-driven environment. Working alongside some of the world’s top minds on cases that reshape business, government and society, you will increase your understanding of complex business problems from diverse perspectives, and develop new skills. Twice a year, you will travel to global practice area meetings where you will have the opportunity to present to senior BCG management. At the same time, you’ll partner with senior clients, taking on the role of trusted advisor, and work at all levels of the client organization to find and execute value creation strategies that result in meaningful, enduring impact.


YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS)
  • 4 to 9 years of relevant experience in operations, strategy, and/or management consulting, specifically supporting clients in the Energy space. Experience in industry in technical and leadership roles preferred.
  • Experience leading teams of consultants, working closely together with Managing Directors & Partners, mentoring team members, and running projects on a day-to-day basis with executive level client teams.
  • MBA, or other advanced degree in business administration, finance, or other preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and a high capacity for conceptual thinking. Ability to develop leading edge business models, frameworks for analysis, and long-term business strategies that maximize shareholder value.
  • Proven ability to manage client engagements, client relationships, and provide “thought leadership” to teams, owning the responsibility for the quality of engagements.
